Ageing

Camera Settings: f/5.6, 1/400 sec exposure time, ISO-1250.

As I was watering the garden I noticed this bird that I must have overlooked a thousand times. I thought the rusting metal really captured the idea of ageing, which triggered the impulse to photograph it.

The natural backdrop really contrasted the metal bird, and I think the angle was appropriate for what I was capturing. I could have been a bit closer, but overall I feel the rusted quality is really captured in the image.

Sprouting

Camera Settings: f/3.5, 1/200 sec exposure time, ISO-125.

My mum has these three pots of succulents on our back deck where I have my breakfast, and I noticed the flowers were just starting to sprout from one of them. This was an obvious connection to the passage of time, and allowed me to play with the manual settings of the camera a bit to get an appropriate picture.

The focus of the photo turned out well but could have been better if I focused on the foremost flower a bit more, rather than the second tier of flowers.

Blooming

Camera Settings: f/5, 1/200 sec exposure time, ISO-100.

I recently got some new succulents and I was really happy with how they looked in the pots, especially the Arizona Snowcap, which gets small white flowers in winter. I thought I could continue documenting the passage of time in plants and objects around the house, and this continued that theme.

This photo originally had quite a large backdrop, and whilst it looked really nice, it didn’t focus much on the blooming flowers which captured the passage of time, so I trimmed it to the in-focus, on-theme part of the photo. Would have gotten a better outcome taking a photo solely of the pot.

Decay
DSLR Photography, shot on a Canon EOS60D with a canon 50mm F1.8 Prime Lens.
Camera Settings: f/4, 1/250 sec exposure time, ISO-125.

Continuing with the theme of things around the house that were on theme, I went looking for a plant that was dying, and found a vine on the fence that was slowly decaying.

The black fence colour really looked nice next to the warm tones of the decaying leaves, and the vibrant greens of the leaves clinging to life.

Seasons
DSLR Photography, shot on a Canon EOS60D with a canon 50mm F1.8 Prime Lens.
Camera Settings: f/4, 1/640 sec exposure time, ISO-100.

The frangipani in hibernation. It almost looks like it’s dying without any leaves, so bare boned, and I thought it really conveyed the effect of seasonal change.

Could have gotten a better angle of the actual tree, but the connection to the theme is strong, and the bright blue sky contrasts the bare tree really strongly.
